HOLY COW

HOLY COW H 32?x W 23?x D 18?
When I visited India for the
first time at the age of 20 I was fascinated by the sacred cows that
wonder the streets. Loved, adored and cherished, they are often
decorated with flowers, garlands, bells and jewelry. In contrast each
time I drive down to LA on route 5, the cattle lot next to the road
appalls me. The stench hits you miles away and seeing the cattle
crowded into smelly brown crap fields is hugely disturbing. After the
outbreak of mad cow disease in the UK my family no longer eats beef. As
a first world country shouldn?t we be leading the way in the humane
treatment of animals? "Holy Cow" is inspired by the Indian Kitsch
paintings of Nandi, Vishnu?s mount. The humming bird symbolizes the
fragility of life. Her sweater is a rich grass green, a kinder more
fitting environment.
