A portion of this piece was started prior to the Tsunami disaster. I had been working on a series of boat shapes and seed pods, these lay abandoned on one of my shelves waiting for inspiration. But after the tragedy and after listening to weeks of agonizing stories I decided to create a new sculpture to pay my respect to those who had died. Many of the stories I read about were of the fishing folk who had been saved by their boats. Others were not so lucky so this is an empty vessel carrying the lost spirits to their resting place.
